March Madness spurs $217m in revenue for New York sportsbooks
Mobile GGR up 34% YOY as Empire State handle surpasses $2.3bn in March
New York sportsbooks reported $217.3m in mobile revenue in March, clearing the $200m threshold for the fifth time in six months, according to new data from the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC).
Gross gaming revenue (GGR) spiked 34.3% year-over-year (YOY) from $161.8m during the same period of 2025.
Buoyed by the NCAA college basketball tournament March Madness, revenue was up nearly 24% from $175.8m in February, which had doubled as the first sub-$200m month since September 2025.
March handle came to $2.3bn, extending the Empire State’s record run of $2bn-handle months to eight straight months. Overall wagering volume, however, was down 4.7% YOY from March 2025.
That gave way to a statewide hold of 9.3%, the second straight month under 10% after three consecutive months featuring double-digit win rates.
State coffers were padded with $110.8m in tax receipts from operators, with the proceeds going toward educational initiatives.
FanDuel continued to pave the way among the operators ranks, amassing $87.4m in gross revenue on $811.2m in handle for a 10.8% hold that registered as a full 1.5 percentage points better than the statewide figure.
DraftKings wasn’t too far behind its primary US competitor, generating $77.5m in GGR and $758.4m in wagering volume, leading to a strong 10.2% win rate.
Fanatics maintained its podium status after netting $15.7m in revenue on $302.8m in handle, equating to a below-average 5.2% hold.
Caesars, meanwhile, nearly matched Fanatics in GGR ($14.2m) on half the volume ($152m), while BetMGM ($193.3m handle, $11.7m GGR) rounded out the top five.
New York capped the 2025-26 fiscal year with $2.6bn in GGR and $1.3bn in tax revenue.
